Sony release an integrated optical head for DVD.
Optical head includes a light emitter to emit laser towards an optical disc and a detector to a return light from the disc. Sony use less components than before to complete the same function.
This integrated module adopt a diffractive optical element (DOE)into the prism to eliminate the number of lenes, which make module smaller. (DOE can function like lens that has bending power to focus light.)
Besides, different order of diffractive light can serve as the track feedback target.
Sony claims this integrated module has such advantages:
- flexible extension - suitable for customization
- less components - simplify the manufacture process
- durability of heat, environment
Integrating prism and DOE is good solution of miniaturization. Module can simply the assembly process, but this transfer the tolerance to the geometry of prism and the DOE.
