Dyson Fan

Dyson invents a very amazing fan without blades and breaks our stereotype of fan.
Because of blades, problems of conventional fan is nonuniform air flow, and needs outside cage to protect user to touch but has side effect of dust accumulation.
The fan comprise a circular nozzle and a base. You will not see blades in appearance, but it still need a mechanism to draw and form airflow. So dyson design a impeller(or you can say a pump) in the base to draw air for nozzle to blow uniform flow.

Impeller
  • at the base below the nozzle
  • for generating air flow - draw air and pass to nozzle
  • ~pumps, motors, fluid transfer devices, rotating devices.....

Even the moving part has moved to the base, this design still couldn't amaze customer. Dyson really put much effort in fluid mechanism - we can see from their marvelous vacuum cleaner. They design some trick to enhance the efficiency of air, decrease the turbulence and vortex.
  • Mouth
  • Coanda Surface
  • Diffuser Surface
  • Guide Surface
Mouth blow the primary air flow and Coanda surface can extract the secondary air flow to increase air throughput by Coanda effect. Then the Diffuser and guide surface can assist the delivery efficiency, and collaborate with special designed angle to converge air flow to decrease vortex.
